If you’re wondering about how to get a verification badge beside your username on Instagram Threads, here’s a step-by-step guide that’ll help you.

Instagram’s new microblogging platform, Threads, is finally available for everyone, and users are already wondering how to get verified. The process to sign up for Threads is fairly straightforward for people who already have an Instagram account, but those who don’t will need to make one. Threads is available for both iOS and Android, with a desktop version to follow down the line.

Per the official blog post, users’ Instagram usernames and verification will carry over to Threads, meaning users don’t have to apply and pay for verification separately. So, to get verified on Instagram Threads, users must subscribe to Meta Verified. Before proceeding with the steps, users should ensure that everything is correct in their username, profile name, date of birth, and profile picture, as once the process starts, they won’t be able to change anything.

Meta Verified costs $14.99/month for Android and iOS in the United States. To subscribe, open Instagram on Android or iOS and hit the profile picture in the bottom right corner. On the Profile page, tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner, and then select ‘Settings and Privacy.‘ At the top, select ‘Accounts Center‘ and hit ‘Meta Verified‘ at the bottom of the page. Then, tap ‘Subscribe,‘ and confirm by pressing ‘Sign Up.‘ Finally, hit the ‘Pay Now‘ button at the bottom and confirm the transaction through the desired mode of payment.

Once the payment goes through, users will need to select the type of verification they want to provide (a form of government ID) and submit a photo of both sides of the document for proof. The verification process can take up to 48 hours, so users shouldn’t worry if they don’t immediately see a blue tick next to their username. If the account doesn’t get verified for some reason, the subscription fee will be refunded to the original mode of payment. Once users successfully enroll in the Meta Verified service, they’ll get a blue checkmark beside their username, not just on Instagram but on Facebook and the newly launched Threads app.

Whether users create a Threads account before applying for Meta Verified or after doesn’t matter. Once the verification is complete, they’ll get a checkmark on all the platforms. Those who are already verified don’t need to do anything at all. At the moment, Threads has a dedicated Verified tab in the Activity section, wherein users can see their interaction with verified users, similar to how Twitter treats notifications from verified accounts.
